Frequently asked questions about saddle checks

Whatever work your horse does, it deserves a well-fitting saddle and bridle. Well-fitting harness prevents problems and enables the horse to perform the work required and deliver the best performance.

Tweespan/Fryso has been ready to provide you and your horse with a suitable saddle for 30 years. We do this by fitting new saddles from Fryso, Wintec, Bates and Arena and also by checking and adjusting all brands of saddles.

An annual saddle check is recommended because horses change a lot in condition during their lives. The horse can grow, gain weight, lose weight, gain more muscle, be pregnant, get older and the seasons also have an influence. To prevent (back) problems, it is important to adjust the saddle in a timely manner to these changes in condition.

Frequently asked questions about saddle checks at Tweespan/Fryso

Is there riding during a saddle check?

Yes, please. A saddle can seem good when standing still, but still cause problems while riding. That is why riding is always part of a saddle check if that option is available.

How do I know if my saddle is positioned correctly?

There are very clear signals, such as a saddle slides forward of slides backwards or is crooked. Or what can also be seen with a little practice: a saddle that bridges, tilts or leans too backwards.

Stopping behavior can also indicate a poorly fitting saddle, but this does not necessarily have to be the cause.

If I have a Wintec/Arena, do I have to buy materials myself?

A Wintec or Bates saddle of course does not have wool filling, but air filling and is adjusted with inserts (shims) and various sizes of head irons. We have plenty of these in stock and you do not have to arrange them yourself in advance.

Can you also check my saddle from brand X?

For all wool-filled saddles you can contact Tweespan/Fryso for a saddle check. We have parts available for air-filled saddles from Wintec, Bates, Arena, Tekna, Anky or Ruiz Diaz. We can provide advice for other brands, but you will have to order materials yourself.

Are you also watching the single?

Certainly, we always check, for example, whether the girth is the correct length or whether the saddle does not pull forward or backward, for example. We also have various (anatomical) girths to try from Fryso, Wintec and other brands.

Can I also test stirrups?

This is not a standard part of the saddle check, but if you want to know how Sprenger or Flex-On stirrups ride, the option is there. Are you interested in this? Please indicate this when making the appointment.

Can I pay by card?

All our saddle fitters have a pin machine. So pinning is no problem. Payment can also be made in cash. Payment by credit card or other methods is not possible.

Can I make an appointment for an evening/Saturday/Sunday?

No, we only visit during the day on working days.

We travel throughout the Netherlands, including all 5 Wadden Islands. We also come to Flanders, West Germany and Denmark. It goes without saying that it is advantageous if we can come for several horses.
